Oh Look, But You Are... In transition is a term used to signify the phase of labor a pregnant woman experiences before she feels the urge to push. It is the shortest part of the labor, but also can be the most disorienting, challenging and frightening. This is the time when she most needs her support system and is the least capable of asking for it. This is often a time when she feels her fears, her self- doubt and her frustrations flooding to the surface and her habitual coping mechanisms falling away. Are you pregnant with a project, an idea or a baby? Are you pregnant with your changing life? Do you find yourself saying, I dont think I can do this? What if I told you that the FACT that you feel like the task at hand is impossible is actually a great sign? What if I told you that this is entirely normal? So long as you feel like you can manage, there is still progress yet to be made. A midwife listens for the words, I cant do this and with an authority the woman has learned to trust she says, Oh look, but you are.
