One of the best things that an artist can do to advance their art - TopicsExpress

One of the best things that an artist can do to advance their art is to be in the company of other artists. The opportunity to meet other artists, to talk to them, and to watch them work is of the highest benefit to anyone working to improve their art. This has been the case ever since artists began to congregate and form art societies. There is real value to working around other artists, to watch them work and to see how they solve problems that are routinely encountered in painting. There is an immeasurable benefit to anyone who crafts material with various tools, and because of being influenced by others who work hard at transforming material stuff into what Professor Elliott so astutely described as a spiritual thing we overcome what I have called survivor fatigue. Watching demonstrations, such as Vesnas recent gallery event at WWU and being along side others to see how they interpret and express life is vital support we need in this material world. As a tribute to my long time colleague Professor Paul Clervi, who so eloquently described attrition of many artists and the sad fact many do not continue passionate crafting of materials after ten years from the time they departed from art school, I would respond by saying thank you to Paul for being one who never burned out and who kindled a creative flame in many of us. It was a wonderful two days of reviewing portfolios. Good night and come to the studio tomorrow with a passion to create!
