Over 130,000 Spectators Expected for Malaysian MotoGP 2013 GET ready for the 2013 leg of the Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, to be held from October 11-13 at Sepang International Circuit (SIC). The circuit management is expecting a record attendance of over 130,000 over three days or 80,000 fans on race day, Sunday this year following the extensive promotional tour of South East Asia in particular Thailand and Indonesia as well as the unprecedented representation of five local riders at the Malaysian Grand Prix 2013. The 23rd edition of the event was launched with a glitzy ceremony at the Publika Solaris Dutamas by our Malaysian rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin who rode a replica of his Moto3 KTM motorcycle into the stage. Zulfahmi thrilled the crowd last year at Sepang after he became the first Malaysian to qualify in pole position for a motorcycling world championship race, and back it up with a 2nd place on race day for the first ever podium placing on behalf of Malaysia! The launch event was attended by Datuk M.Saravanan, the Deputy Minister of Ministry of Youth & Sports. Also present were Dato’ Razlan Razali, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SIC, who announced that Shell Advance having renewed its commitment as the title sponsor of the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix for the next two years. As a recap, the 22nd edition of Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix 2012 recorded an excellent event for SIC which they had a record-breaking spectator attendance of more than 77,000 of spectators; a first ever podium for Malaysia by Muhammad Zulfahmi Khairuddin and a sensational performance by the Moto2 wildcard rider, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah. Moreover last year, SIC was recognised as the MotoGP event of the year by Dorna. Hence, for this year MotoGP, fans can expect more variety of activities, which will feature Ducati Club convoy on the race day, 13th October. Fans also can get to enjoy the biggest ever and most happening off-track experience with the participation of more than 60 trades and vending operators including all of the world’s major bike manufacturers. Currently placed 12th with 50 points overall, Zulfahmi hopes to make the best of the home ground advantage. Also in the mix is young sensation Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah, who finished a sensational 4th position in last year’s Moto2 race as a wildcard rider and has been confirmed for a third time entry in the Moto2 class. Along with Hafizh, Malaysia’s latest racing outfit, Touchline SIC AJO Racing Team will feature Amirul Hafiq & Husni Aizat, as the duo slotted as Moto3 Wildcard Entries; and current SuperSports 600cc category ARRC championship leader, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman, who qualified on merit and will race in next week’s San Marino Grand Prix leading to the Malaysian Grand Prix. Razlan also emphasized on the development aspects of the sports in Malaysia and Asia with the introduction of the inaugural South East Asia Motorcycle Business Forum. “This event which is scheduled for the 9th of October 2013, will feature the region’s key industry players,” he said, as he assured participants the unique opportunities the forum holds in terms of business opportunities in motorsports. The SIC CEO also elaborated on the recently announced Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup which is a feeder series for Asian motorcycle stars of the future, with SIC named as its official headquarters. The Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup will provide a fantastic opportunity to produce new and exciting talents in the motorcycling world, as it aims to give riders from the Asian region a strong stepping-stone into on-track racing.
