PCL FALL SEASON WEEK 1 RECAP No Drama trumps Sets In The City Flying Aces bombs the BallBusters As a full moon illuminated Palisades Wednesday evening, 48 Club League players battled it out for Week One supremacy in the intra-club mixed doubles team tennis league. As the moon rose and set, so did Maria Tettman/Charles Schredders No Drama team, earning 74 game points to win the first of 6 weeks 4-level competitions. 10 points back, Terry Keene/Christina Bennetts Flying Aces won their match with a 64-game tally. Julian/Rebecca Guises BallBusters were third with a mere 51 points, while Marty McClintock/Nichole Storys Sets In The City brought up the rear with an anemic 47 points. For No Drama, which won 5 of their 6 matches, Brian Green/Nathalie Lascelles won the 5.0 line 6-2, 6-3; and teammates Dennis Rispoli/Susan Price took the 4.5 line in three sets that each required a tiebreaker round and a third set victory for a 14-13 overall win. At 4.0, Sets In The Citys Scott Custer/Hillie Barouti won 12-11 after their own tiebreaker round, but No Dramas John Thompson/Aly Shepard outweighed that effort with a 12-4 win over City in the other 4.0 match. After that, it was all No Drama at 3.5 as Frank Nastanski/Jenn Stocking won 13-7 and Vito Francone/Lori Ratzlaff scored 12-6. Meanwhile, at 5.0, BallBusters Jeff Cahill/Laura Roytman took the 5.0 line with a 6-4, 6-4 score in a hard-fought contest. For the Flying Aces, who won 4 of the 6 matches, Frank Carroll/Susan Pugach won at 4.5 with a commanding 12-3 drubbing. At 4.0, Aces Andrew Serendipity/Krista Carrere won 13-8; and BallBusters Scott Denick/Barb Schafer scored 12-5. The 3.5 lines split, with Busters Les Persohn/Lisa Hayes winning 12-10 in three sets; and Aces Denis LaRoche/Cathieann Young scoring 12-8. Next week, No Drama faces BallBusters and Sets In The City takes on Flying Aces. With 5 weeks to go, anything can happen with these matchups.
