PLEASE READ - Sitting at dinner today with my wife Deborah and Bishop J.D. Guthrie, another family at an adjacent table finished their dinner and exited the restaurant. The last member of the family, a stately gentleman stopped at our table as if he wanted to say something. He paused and said I am blessed to soon be 89 years old. We acknowledged him in respect for his age and wisdom. He proceeded to tell us that he served as a Marine in WW2. We thanked him for his service to our country. Then he floored me he said he was a congressional Medal of Honor recipient. I was in awe. As if that was not enough, he shared very humbly, I might add, not only with tears in his eyes but audibly crying at times, that He was with Martin as they marched on Washington D.C. and in 1965 from Selma to Montgomery. He was in Memphis with Dr. king when he was assassinated. I hope I have it right, but it think he said Martin (his words) was in room 306 and he was in adjoining 308. Theres more... This gentleman, shared is the founder of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, now he added, a multi-million dollar enterprise. If that werent enough, he shared that he was a former President of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. Bishop Guthrie, noticing the gentlemens lapel pin, stated and that the man was one of the 100 Black Men of America. The gentleman acknowledged that fact. Finally, he said my wife and I have been married for 66 years. Still in state of reverence and admiration, I asked him his name. He said Ozell Sutton. I vaguely knew the name but purposed in my mind that I would research him more when I got home. I then escorted him to his car where his wife and another family member were patiently waiting. Thank God for the opportunity to meet such a great man, who has made so many great contributions for mankind.
