PSA: there is currently a Facebook spam attack that is hitting SCA Baronies. I just deleted requests from two spambots claiming to be real people, trying to join our Baronial group. Both were pretty obvious spammers in most respects -- no real profile, joining lots of groups in lots of different places and languages. In this particular case, though, its pretty clear that they are trying to join every FB group with the word Baron in it: each was a member of several dozen groups, including SCA Baronies, LARP groups, groups about historical Barons, one about the WWI Red Baron, etc. These sorts of bots lie low for a while, joining as many groups as possible, and then spam all over them until they get banned. If you administer an SCA FB page, please be good to your members and keep an eye out for these things. They are usually easy to spot: they are typically newish to Facebook but quickly join a bunch of groups in a variety of languages, have little or no personal information visible (aside from generic pictures of pretty women, cute cats or sunsets), and have no apparent SCA involvement. This particular case is an exception, which is why it took me a minute to catch it: because of the Baron attack, their group lists are full of other SCA FB groups that havent been paying attention. In case of doubt whether its a real person or a spambot, I recommend dropping them a quick FB Message -- real people tend to respond, and spammers almost never do. Thank you...
