People regard Shakespeare as the best writer to have ever existed. I disagree. ( Im basing this off as poems and stories themselves, not plays. Not all writers had access to such equipment.) While no other writer has affected poetry with such force I have to think to myself and ask why is that so? Romeo and Juliet is nothing more than an infatuated teenage couple that cant cope with reality. Hamlet had too many character /personality flaws, he was often inconsistent with how he acted. I could go on, but every story has flaws. I believe the main reason people today think of Shakespeare so highly, is the time period of how people wrote and spoke in that time period. Its a beautiful way to write, an artwork in itself, but that doesnt justify the quality of his stories. This may be a bold statement, but I believe Edgar Allen Poe is the greatest writer. The way his work just kinda throws your emotions around is unique, and you dont find that exact feeling much these days. Im sure people will either agree or disagree, but thats the great thing about this topic, there will never be right or a wrong, only war. Quoth the Raven, Nevermore.
