Petersham Hall purchase Long Eaton’s Petersham Hall community centre is to be bought by Erewash Borough Council and will undergo refurbishment work to upgrade the facility for local people. The Council Executive, at its meeting this month, approved the purchase of the freehold interest from Three Valleys Housing for £1 – while councillors also gave the go-ahead for £184,000 of improvements over the next four years. The community centre, on Grasmere Road, will see work carried out in four stages, with the first £63,000 phase focusing on improving the access and toilet facilities. The next three phases will see the building’s electrics and alarm systems upgraded, brickwork repairs, internal refurbishment and alterations to the full length windows in a bid to stop vandalism. The centre is part of a block of property that includes two first floor flats which have been given back to Three Valleys Housing in a 999 year lease at £1 per year. An adjacent shop is also part of the complex and was leased in 2002 to Erewash Voluntary Action Group to provide voluntary services. Councillor Geoffrey Smith, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Regeneration and Planning, says: “Local people, I’m sure, will welcome this news and look forward to seeing the upgrade of Petersham Hall. It is a popular centre and a well-used focal point for community activities and facilities. The acquisition of the hall means we can invest in a property that we own and ensure it meets the proper standards of access and provides suitable facilities for people of all ages.”
