Please help with your ideas --------------------------------------- Every time I go to India, I see an increase in the number of private education providers. In Patna, there are thousands of coaching classes, each charging exorbitant fee. Naturally, a question arises about the need of such parallel education business (each charging tens of thousands of rupees per subject) in our society when government already has so many schools running. Why parents have to spend so much money just to get their kids basic education? I think it all boils down to the inferior quality of education in government schools. Due to lack of quality teachers and infrastructure in government schools, private tuition business has become a norm in our society. There is an acceptance among people that the only way to get a child educated is to enroll him in a private coaching class. But what about poor families who don’t even earn 100 rupees per day? What about their children? Where will they go? Obviously they cannot pay such money to get their kids enrolled in private coaching classes. Its a shame that such things are happening so openly around us and no one talks about it. I think this is unfair to poor. Quality education must be free for all, specially poor. I have been thinking about this for quite some time now. Its unsettling to me. What can I do to help? ---------------------------------- Obviously, I cannot change the system. I cannot improve the quality of government schools in Bihar when I do not even live in India. I cannot shut down these coaching classes as well. But there is one thing I can do. Take help of internet. I can collect free quality videos of as many subjects as possible (in Hindi) from internet and show them to kids, obviously free of charge, using the infrastructure we already have at TheHopeStreet. If they have any question, they will google. This will make kids self dependent and education can reach them free of charge. They can use computers, tablets and internet of TheHopeStreet computer center. I have already collected some good videos from youtube and internet in general and planning to start a pilot project soon to see how viable this idea is. What do you think? Will it work? If not, suggest some alternatives. If yes, do you see any scope of improvement. We are hungry for new constructive ideas and we are extremely flexible to changes.
