Police ‘foils’ Hurriyat seminar; Geelani manages to ‘break police cordon’ Srinagar: Police on Wednesday ‘foiled’ seminar of Hurriyat Conference (G) which was scheduled to be organized at Hurriyat headquarters in uptown area of Srinagar. According to details available, in order to remember the ‘martyrs’ of 2010 mass uprising, Hurriyat had scheduled to organize a seminar in Hyderpora and which was to be chaired by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the chairman of the amalgam. However, police foiled the programme citing ‘law and order’ reasons. However, Geelani, who is under house detention, managed to come out of his residence and held a sit-in on Airport road. The senior leaders of parallel Hurriyat including Shabir Ahmad Shah and Nayeem Ahmad Khan also joined the octogenarian leader. The Hurriyat chairman on the occasion paid tributes to the 2010 victims and demanded an impartial probe into the killings. The pro-freedom leader, meanwhile, opposed the separate homeland for the Kashmir Pandits. However, Geelani said that he is not against the return of the Pandits and expressed hope that they would come back. (GNS)
