Possible speed limit change in front of school By Matthew Maneval, Hillsdale Daily News Twitter: @mttmanevalHDN WALDRON — For the past several months the Waldron Area Schools Board of Education has been adopting pieces of their new board policy piece-by-piece. Some pieces have been contested by members of the public and some meetings have allowed considerable discussion of the policies. However, Monday night the board approved the last pieces of their NEOLA policy and thus reached full approval of the policy. The policy comes from a management documents company called NEOLA and the policies are generally referred as NEOLA policies. The services provide include board bylaws and policies, administrative guidelines/procedures, forms, student/parent handbooks, and staff handbooks. Superintendent Jose Vera invited a few speakers to present during his report to the board. A notable issue addressed during the superintendent’s report includes the Affordable Care Act. The piece of legislation has been a frequently discussed piece of legislation for its impact on employers. Waldron Area Schools Business Manager Rhonda Potts said the district has less than 50 employees and therefore they do not need to comply with the laws guidelines. As long as employers restrict their workforce to no more than 49 full-time employees then the mandates of the ACA don’t apply. However, Potts said she would take care to document respective paperwork in case the district reaches the 50 employee mark. The board also discussed the possibility of changing the speed limit in front of the school. The board currently wishes to reduce the speed currently allowed. It was said that the issue would have to be discussed with the road commission in order to attain signs that designate a lower speed limit.
