RELEASE October 18, 2013 Governor Brownback orders flags lowered on Wednesday, October 23, in honor of Sergeant Patrick C. Hawkins Topeka – In accordance with Executive Order 10-12, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff from sun-up to sun-down on Wednesday, October 23, in honor of Sergeant Patrick Hawkins. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 23, at Arlington National Cemetery. Hawkins enlisted in the Army after graduating from high school in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Hawkins went on to become an Army Ranger. He is survived by his wife Brittanie of Lansing, Kansas and his parents Roy and Shelia of Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Sergeant Hawkins was killed on October 6, 2013 while on patrol in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.
