REMEMBERING WOODSTOCK IN ZAMBOANGA CITY by John Boboy Shinn III L.A. Zamboanga Times I was about 15 years old. The year was 1976. Zamboanga City. Theres an area in the old public market me and my friends call WOODSTOCK. No, the name had no connection with the 1969 music festival in Woodstock, New York. Woodstock at the old public market was a place where one can make an easy buck selling genuine Made in USA Levis jeans and other imported wear. I was a suki at Woodstock since thats where I go to sell some of my prized imported jeans---when I was running low of date money. One day in 3rd year high school, I had this girlfriend from City High. I would come by her school every afternoon---then we would walk to ABC Bakery for her to ride a public jeepney home. One day, as we were walking by ZAEC---across from the Sunken Garden----some of the WOODSTOCK guys saw me and started yelling and calling out my name. I tried so hard to pretend I did not hear or see them...hahaha....the next day I dropped by WOODSTOCK and explained to them and asked them to please do not yell and call my name if my girlfriend was with me....they all laughed! ========
