Relatives set ablaze B’pora girl, dies after 5-days Police Arrest 3 Accused MIR TARIQ SmallerDefaultLarger Pazalpora (Bandipora), July 13: Pall of gloom descended over Pazalpora village in this north Kashmir district on Saturday following a death of 20 year old girl who was set ablaze allegedly by her uncle and aunt earlier this week. She succumbed in Srinagar hospital after battling for life for five days. Yasmeena Bano daughter of Muhammad Sarwar Malik was allegedly set ablaze by her uncle and aunt following an altercation over removal of trees around their house. A police complaint filed by victim’s father states: “A local Sarpanch approached Bashir Ahmed Malik with his brother’s (Sarwar Malik father of victim) with a plea to remove trees around their house. This infuriated Bashir Malik and he assaulted Sarwar Malik and the Sarpanch. Following the altercation the Bashir Malik and his wife Hafiza barged into victim house and sprinkled kerosene oil over Yasmeena beat her up and then set her ablaze.” Yasmeena was taken to the Bandipora hospital where from she was shifted to Srinagar where she succumbed after five days today. “I was alone in my house when they set my daughter on fire. They (accused) didn’t allow anybody to rescue her till she received 80 percent burn injuries,” said Shaeema Begum mother of the victim. Urging government to take stern action against the accused, locals said: “It is a social tragedy law enforcing agencies should take cognizance of such incidents. It is inhuman and persons involved in such acts should be dealt harshly so that such heinous incidents are not repeated.” Police have registered a case and have arrested three person including Bashir Ahmed Malik, Hafiza Begum and their son Junaid Bashir, while other two accused are still absconding. “We have registered a case and have arrested three main accused including uncle and aunt of victim,” Superintendent of Police Bandipora Bashir Ahmed Khan told Greater Kashmir. “Police have recovered the can carrying kerosene oil and matchstick used in setting the victim on fire,” Khan said.
