STOP PRESS! HEARING CUT TO ONE DAY – NMC PLANS TO ‘OFFER NO EVIDENCE’ Great news for all Justice for Midwife Becky Reed supporters! Becky has heard from her solicitor that the NMC has decided that they have no evidence to offer that her fitness to practise is impaired. There will be a short hearing on one day to ‘dispose of the case’ – date not yet decided. JFMBR has very mixed feelings about this. A short one day hearing will not address the multitude of issues raised, let alone the 63 charges that Becky has been facing and which are now apparently being abandoned. This whole sorry process, which has lasted three and a half years and which has been so damaging to Becky and her family, has also of course raised issues of great concern for the wider midwifery world. With this decision we now have an opportunity for change, as Becky has always hoped could happen. She does not want any other midwife to suffer similar injustice. Becky is so grateful for the amazing support from you all, which has sustained her since this page was started. We will let you know as soon as the hearing date is decided, and hope as many of you as possible will join us in a celebration/protest to demonstrate our strong continuing support and solidarity for Becky, as well as for persecuted midwives everywhere. We still need to ensure that justice prevails for Becky and that she is completely exonerated. This is not the end, and the campaign for justice will continue.
