So now that its over, Ill fess up. I hate Christmas, really despise it. Before anyone jumps on me heres the low down: 1. Driving for hours at the worst weather in the year, this seems stupid. 2. The commercialism and materialism associated with it is ridiculously hypocritical for a holiday celebrating the birth of a man who spurned both wealth and waste and encouraged charity. 3. Most of all I have pretty terrible memories if this time. My mother was one of the most disturbed abusive people you could ever meet and there were numerous holidays filled with drama, fighting, and tears. It pretty much scared me for the holiday and now that my grandparents are all gone Im glad to be done with it. 4. I have spent three Christmas with my oldest daughter in her entire life. After the divorce I never saw her for the holidays so I mostly worked those days and spent them alone, it was miserable, I hated it. Now that I have two more daughters and a granddaughter Ive made the effort to try to at least conceal my contempt for the holidays. Plus spending drama and infighting free holidays with my wifes family has helped me enjoy it more. So take a moment the next time some one tells you they dont like the holidays and consider there may be something more to the story than just humbug.
