So sorry to post this for all you coffee and Keurig lovers! But as long as we are on the subject of coffee... At convention last week there was a lot of talk of how coffee is just not good for us for many reasons. Just to name a few; 1. Caffeine increases stress response which elicits cortisol and increases insulin which increases inflammatory response which not only make you feel lousy but has far reaching adverse effects in our bodies. 2. The caffeine habit decreases insulin sensitivity, making it difficult for our cells to respond appropriately to blood sugar. High blood sugar can lead to arterial deterioration and increased risk of cardiovascular disease. 3. Caffeine disrupts serotonin synthesis in the brain which disrupts sleep, bowel function, energy levels and promotes anxiety and depression. 4. Elevated urinary excretion of important minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium can cause an imbalance in electrolytes leading to serious systemic complications. BTW - Decaf has its own set of problems as the chemicals used to remove caffeine are very toxic! So dont think the half-caff is a good option! To ease off your coffee addiction more easily, reduce your consumption by a 1/4 cup a day. Then boil some water, let it cool to the touch and make yourself a cup of yummy Immunity Boosting tea with lemon and OnGuard essential oils. Mmmmmmm.....
