Soldiers from 1st (United Kingdom) Armoured Division Signal - TopicsExpress

Soldiers from 1st (United Kingdom) Armoured Division Signal Regiment (1 ADSR) have received their operational service medals at a rain-affected parade held in Herford, Germany. After a short address by General Officer Commanding 1(UK) Division, Major General James Chiswell CBE MC, where they were thanked for their hard work and efforts in Afghanistan, the parade moved to the Officer’s Mess where the 70 soldiers who had deployed for the first time received their operational medals in more comfortable surroundings. One of the soldiers receiving her operational medal was Signaller Rosie Fawcett, who joined the Army in 2011. Talking of her time in Afghanistan Rosie said: “It was a fantastic experience and different from what I thought it would be - I learnt so much whilst I deployed. In Afghanistan I took on a new role of working on the technical side making sure communications remained unbroken and dealing quickly with any faults that developed. This was all unfamiliar to start with and a bit of challenge to learn but I soon got to grips with the requirements and realised I had a bit of a flair for resolving the technical issues. Because of this I now have the confidence in my capabilities and will be looking to try and move across to the technical side permanently.” However, the biggest highlight of Rosie’s time in Afghanistan was probably having the opportunity to spend some time with her father who managed to visit her in Kabul. As Rosie said: “It was fantastic that I got to share this experience with my father, it was totally unexpected, and something really nice and great to see him before he was posted.” Reflecting on a successful deployment Commanding Officer 1 ADSR Lt Col Jules Hill remarked: “I have been hugely impressed with my soldiers whether it was delivering communications in Kabul, supporting the Manoeuvre Battle Group, providing communications to Bastion or preparing kit for removal the delivery of the desired communication effect and support was always maintained. This has been achieved thorough innovation, tactical aptitude, hard work and of course great s humour. I am very proud of them all.”
