Solid state sounds harsher than tube technology due to the fact - TopicsExpress

Solid state sounds harsher than tube technology due to the fact that tubes designed for audio use have an upper frequency limit that is a property of physics. Transistors (Solid state) have a upper limit that reaches into the Megahertz range and introduce artifacts to signals when the signals pass through the non-linear portion of biasing. Small value capacitors are used to filter this HF energy to ground. At one time, interstage transformers were used and would block these frequencies, but modern day gear uses microcontrollers to do the filtering.
