Sooner or later, all of us feel betrayed in one way or another by someone weve trusted. (Psalm 55:12-14) People let us down. Sometimes its unintentional, and that hurts badly enough. Its even worse when a friend purposefully stabs us in the back. The hurt can be overwhelming. Its easy to feel angry. Its only natural to want to put up our guard and protect ourselves against further pain. Its far more challenging to follow Christs example. He, too, knew what it was like to be betrayed by a friend, And yet He never raised His hand in anger, never spoke sharp words, never sought to return the blow in any way. If we have chosen to be followers of Jesus Christ, then we, too, must find ways to respond with love to those who have hurt us.
