Still have not seen Son of God: But for those of you who have seen - TopicsExpress

Still have not seen Son of God: But for those of you who have seen a lot of Jesus films, what do you see as the best ones, for whatever reasons? 1970s Rock Musical/Opera-wise: I give the edge to Godspell. Its more Biblical & By My Side can make me cry. JC Superstar lacks both but DOES have the power anthem Gesthemane. Classic overall Life of Christ films- A lot of you have not seen the silent B&W King of Kings by Cecil B. DeMille. Its awesome & sets a precedent for every Jesus movie made since. Some idiosyncracies from Gibsons Passion have their origin in this. Jesus of Nazareth, the 1970s NBC miniseries, is just a sprawling, historical & artistic masterpiece. But Robert Powells Jesus is just a bit too gaunt & ethereal for my taste. The claymation The Miracle-Maker is a wonderful Intro to Jesus for anyone, AND it gets Mary Magdalene right! Jesus The Mini-Series - Jeremy Sistos Jesus may be a bit too laid-back but He is genuine & human as well as Divine- The European ending is awesome ending with Jesus in His Present/Future mission, much superior to the US-TV ending. The Caiaphas-Pilate subplots are genius. Caiaphas is genuine concerned for his people & does not want to see this upstart Jesus spoiling it for everyone. Pilate (Gary Oldman) takes this opportunity to use Jesus in a cat&mouse game with Caiaphas. Oh- Debra Messing- a good solid Mary Magdalene. I would like to see Jim Cavieziel do a full life of Christ. Alas, I dont think Mel has any credibility left to pull it off.
