The Coconuts Tale: A Story of Modern Samoa. Patriotism and Corruption Nikolao wondered if other Samoans shared his vision to see every Fale in Samoa filled with happy families. Nikolao thought that this must be the guiding ambition of every genuine government. If a government wished to be remembered for all time as the finest then it must organise the people to feed the people and to improve every area of their lives. Nikolao imagined that one day a leader of Samoa might walk the length and breadth of Samoa and not find a single hungry or unhappy person. Maybe that leader would not be rich but his people would not mind because they would understand that he had given up ambitions of wealth so that everyone might have enough. Would such a leader be welcome if he arrived dusty from the road and thirsty and hungry. If that leader had a rule that he could not eat until all had enough to eat would he ever be respected? If that leader had been educated in foreign lands but valued the simplicity of Samoas fish and fruit and root crops and coconut as treasures and the way forward so that money could be spent on electricity and computers and schooling and not overseas travel or expensive cars would he be good enough for the people he loves?
