The Holy Spirit, a film by Nuri Kino. Watch, share, share again. The Patriarch has passed away. A 34-year reign has expired. The church has come to a halt. Who will be our next leader? How? Why? A Demand For Action (ADFA) founder and president, Nuri Kino, was on his way to Iraq, when his mother’s cousin called and said that Moran Mor Ignatius Zaka Iwas I, the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch, passed away in Germany. Kino understood that this was monumental, not only for the future of his church, but his people, too, no matter which denomination. So, what was he supposed to do? Change all his plans? Book an entirely new flight and get to Germany? Yes. Of course. He frantically made all the necessary changes and flew into Frankfurt Airport. Kino was the first and only journalist (or civilian), ever, to follow a number of clergy through all the funerary ceremonies of the late patriarch, in Germany, and the election and finally, installment, of the new patriarch, Moran Mor Ignatius Aphrem Karim II in Lebanon, as well as war-torn Syria. Upon arrival in the Middle East, Kino broke all the rules. The only way he could stick around to capture the up close and personal footage was to pretend being a deacon. And no one said the job would be easy … Run. Yet, somehow, Kino managed to capture the colossal journey on a 4.8 inch by 2.3 inch device. His iPhone. He wrote several articles and is the first in our community to produce a documentary shot entirely through the lens of a mobile phone camera. Through this film, the viewers are given the opportunity to be a part of that momentous day, which was the start of a new beginning for their 2000 year-old church. With the catastrophic fall of Mosul this June, Kino has had to put aside much of his work and dedicated his time to ADFA. Therefore, the iPhone documentary had not been available until now. Ironically good timing, considering Christmas is the season of giving. “To the church I was baptized in, this is my Christmas gift for my nation and my people. A new patriarch, a new church, and a new film, all before the New Year. Edo Brikho. Edokhon hawe brikha. Merry Christmas. Rishet d’Shato Brikhto. #DemandForAction #SaveHeavenNow
