The Live Album That Caused A Bunch Of Controversy, And Showed The Tiff Between Paul McCartney & Yoko Ono Was Far From Over : November 12, 2002. Paul McCartney would release a new live album titled Back In The U.S. This release shouldve been the ultimate celebration to all fans of Paul. The past few years had probably been the worst of his life. He had lost both the love of his life Linda, and George Harrison to cancer. It was a shock and surprise that he was not only touring again, but had assembled a great new band of musicians (all still with him to this day) that gave his music a power it never had before live. But unfortunately this album would offend, and upset many longtime Beatles fans. To make things worse, Yoko Ono would go public too by threatening to sue Paul (yet again). For anyone who bought the new cd, one thing they would notice in the liner notes was that under the credits of the Beatles songs it said Songs written by Paul McCartney & John Lennon. Putting Pauls name ahead of Johns. This wasnt the first time Paul had done this. In 1976, when John Lennon was alive he did the exact same thing in the credits of his Wings Over America album. Nobody cared at that time, especially John himself. This was different however, because Yoko went public saying Paul was going against an agreement that John & Paul had made in the early 1960s, and was now disrespecting John for doing this. At first many people sided with Yoko, not understanding why Paul had done this. Once Paul would explain why, once again it would make Yoko look like the ultimate hypocrite. For many, many years it drove Yoko crazy that the song Give Peace A Chance was credited to John Lennon & Paul McCartney, when she felt it shouldve been her name as the co-writer. In 1997 when she released the compilation album Lennon Legend under the song Give Peace A Chance was purposely credited to John Lennon only. Pauls name was left off. This upset Paul, and he vowed revenge. So once he put together the live album, he switched the order of the names to put his first. He knew that Yoko would raise Cain about it, forgetting that she had done it first. Once again thinking the same rules didnt apply to her. Once the fans who were originally upset found this out Yokos argument lost its relevance with the obvious hypocrisy. Paul got his revenge for sure.
