The Lonomia Caterpillar 0010 The Lonomia caterpillar is one of the most dangerous animals in the world, and is undoubtedly the most poisonous form of caterpillar in the world. When the anticoagulant venom is passed onto the skin of a human from the hairs on the body of the caterpillar the poison can cause severe internal injuries and in some cases death. Lonomia caterpillars are usually found crawling on trees in the rainforests of South America, they generally pass on their poison when people lean against trees and press their skin against the caterpillar. When poisoned by a Lonomia caterpillar the internal organs of the body begin to bleed and shutdown, when a number of caterpillars are encountered the eventual outcome is often death. Scientists have recently been attempting to research the chemical makeup of the poison of the Lonomia caterpillar in an attempt to help people with blood clotting medical conditions. Although no breakthrough has yet been reported it is thought that by determining which chemicals are found in the poison a blood clotting agent could be discovered.
