The U.S. concert series initiated by the Arvo Pärt Project with music by the Estonian composer is in full swing – The Washington Post reports on a ‚triumphant run’ for Pärt in Washington this week: wapo.st/1jLVJXj By all accounts last Saturday’s concert of Arvo Pärt’s music at Carnegie Hall - addressing a span of work from Fratres and Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten to Adam’s Lament - was a resounding success. Attendees speak of “a chaos of enthusiasm” for the music and a veritable “stampede” for the after-show CD signing with the composer: “very overwhelming in a good way.” Pärt, as website The Classical Review notes, has indeed become the “most beloved” of contemporary composers. “That the Estonian composer’s music tends to be beautiful helps, but the nature of that beauty matters….The sound world he creates is etched, hard, like a cut diamond. His music rings, but with an edge.” At tonight’s concert at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York the program features the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir performing Kanon Pokajanen in The Temple of Dendur. This performance will be live-streamed beginning at 7:00 p.m. by Q2 Music at: q2music.org
