The angelic pub in angel, London, is a gorgeous gastro pub off the main streets of Angel, this has to be one of the best pubs I have been too since being in the UK, the charm of the old English architecture invites you into to a warm and cozy living room, leather couches are dotted around the place and thankfully one was free for the hungover Green sisters who decided it would be a great idea to drink champagne and gin until 530am in the morning solving the problems of the world, which alas we failed. Everything about this place has been carefully curated to give elegance and a little bit of classic flair, the toilets are made to look like a dungeon with black adder playing over the speakers, clever indeed! Its Oozing charm. First up we ordered a Bloody Mary to pay our respects to the hair of the dog this spicy specimen was packed full of zing by using horseradish, and thyme for a different flavour, 4 tomatoes out of 5, a little too spicy for me, maybe my cotton mouth from a boozy night has made my tastebuds a little sensitive. Naturally when there is a burger on the menu, I am going to order it! It was a beef burger with beef ragout, melted cheddar, pickles, lettuce and mayonnaise. First thing I noticed was how generous the servings were, I was unsure how to demolish this! I took one bite of the beef burger and the patty was Devine, a little overlooked but packed full of flavour and seasoned well. The beef ragout was limp and flavourless - it brought nothing positive to the burger- meat on meat.....i thought it needed a better sauce with more tomatoe to give it the oomph it required. My sister has eaten here before and she advised it usually the ragout is very rich but they missed the mark today. Everything else on the burger wad balanced perfectly the cheese was melted like a blanket and crisped up (and I let out a hooray inside) the pickles ensured my tastebuds danced the happy dance. I added some tomatoe sauce to richen up the flavour where the ragout lacked. I give this a 3.75 pickles out of 5. We ordered a side of deep fried peppers stuffed with cream cheese which popped into your mouth when you bit into them. The thing I dont like about deep fried food is when it is too hot in the middle and you burn yourself, the chef here gave it enough time to cool down (thank you) so burning was avoided, I think a tomatoe dipping sauce would take these to the next level, 4 poppers out of five. The chips and onion rings were amazing ;) 4 potatoes onions out of 5 This is a fantastic gastro pub with an English classic menu with a modern twist, I would come back here again. Next time Im in London, I aim to sample their Sunday roast with Yorkshire puddings (yumyum)
