The emerging world of virtual reality is steadily becoming an unique and more popular platform for marketing and advertising. Instead of the bland, interruptive approach to advertising, this new form of storytelling offers people the chance to experience concerts, sporting events and the like with all of their senses - as if it were real. First movers are already bringing Virtual Reality to consumers; Coca- Cola launched its first VR experience last month - during the World Cup- allowing participants to play on the field without getting up from their seats. Another example, is insurance company Travelers who are currently implementing VR to train employees in worker safety by virtually showing the consequences of not following the rules. The one major stumbling block in using VR, is the cost of the equipment and the ability to get it into the hands of the consumer to experience this new platform. So far, VR is limited to times and places when bulk equipment can be provided to the masses, but as more companies jump into this new territory, the ability to access VR will become simpler and more cost effective. This could be an exciting strategy for marketers to promote their products and services as well as getting closer to their consumers!
