The measure of success, what is it? If we measure our success - TopicsExpress

The measure of success, what is it? If we measure our success by what we have achieved or haven’t achieved we will inevitably be disappointed in our ongoing achievements. We will always be reaching for the sky and falling short of it. I observe young pastors going into ministry with great expectations and dreams of being a success and achieving great exploits for the Lord. I often wonder whether it’s for the Lord or themselves. I hope that doesn’t sound too pessimistic or negative. God has a plan for every born again person. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. What is success? God in His wisdom has declared that He has no favourites, Rom.2:11; Eph.6:9; Acts.10:34. In that one declaration God considers all to be a success if they have accepted His Son’s sacrifice. God considers you to be an immediate success upon doing this. We Have chosen to believe in Jesus, the one in whom the Father has sent. John.6:28-29. I also believe that Christians that endure temptation, but at times may have fallen, but they get up, repent and move on, a success. My burden is light and my yoke is easy, Jesus is not the cause of burn-out. I remember how hard we used to work in the ministry. In one particular place whilst pioneering a church for twelve and a half years; we ran a Bible College, plus the church and never had one day’s break in between; it was a recipe for disaster; we ran the Bible College for over four years. Thank God the Holy Spirit led us to safety. Success can only be governed by being obedient to what God has called us to do; all the rest is wood, hay and stubble and will sink on shifting sands. Always remember this, “The need is not the call”. If you are in something that God has not called you to; I guarantee, you will not feel fulfilled and the sooner you depart from such activity the better you and those you minister to will be. “My yoke is easy and my burden is light...”
