This is a good read and reminder (albeit a bit ultra) but for a few things: 1. Not all, and I believe only the minority, does this and feel this way of Malays and Muslims. My friends and I definitely dont. So RPK is as guilty of gross misrepresentation as those he admonishes. 2. The same goes for Malays who do the same - and these are the minority too. Its both sides. By putting the focus only on one side, again he is misrepresenting and stereotyping, the same as those hes talking about. 3. He doesnt address the actions of parties that incite and does worse - like Perkasa - who has the power of the press behind them 4. He doesnt address the confusion and difference between Islam and acts and statements of certain Muslims and is in fact perpetuating this dangerous confusion. If for example a Christian or a Buddhist say and does something hateful in the name of their religion, and we condemn their acts, does it mean we are attacking Christianity & Buddhism? If the Christians and Buddhists keep quiet about these acts, does it mean they are supporting and condoning the acts? What then do we think of Christians and Buddhists that claim that by condemning the hateful act, others are attacking their beliefs and faiths? But he is right in that some of the vocal minority seem to have lost all sense of responsibility in the words they share, and therefore we need to do our part to gently point in out if what they say is not right (rather than call them racists, bigots, trespassers, pendatangs, supremacists). If a mistake is made, take accountability. Be brave enough to admit it. Make up for it. Blind pride and ego has no place. As for May 13, well, it was political. People and race were used to further certain political agendas, and I think if it is to happen again, it is from statements and stands like Ibrahim Alis (chop their heads off) that if not address and allowed to be said with impunity, that can be used to fan any conflict. This is a clear attempt to control and rule by fear, and it had no place in any peaceful democracy. Yes, that is what it is, every time we threaten As for those who keep criticising Malaysia and deem it unworthy for them and there is no more hope, yes, there are options to settle elsewhere. But many like me deem it our one true home, and although the pros far outweigh the cons, we want it to be better, not just for us but for future generations, especially when it seems to be sliding back because of multiple incidents lately. Pointing out areas that need to be addressed and improved, whats bad, doesnt mean hating. And thinking everything is fine and dandy and ignoring the issues, defending the bad just because we are of the same ethnicity or religion, doesnt mean loving. I dont have a child. But I think anyone who have raised children would attest to this. Or else no parent would never admonish their kids and bother to show them what is right or what is wrong, and all kids will end up to be little emperors, perfect in the eyes of the parents. Blind protection and defending is not a good thing. For us maybe, for our pride, our ego, but not for the child. We should know the difference by now.
