Detroit Buffalo Florida Tampa Bay Reasons: Anaheim: Lost one of their top 3 forwards in Bobby Ryan. And overall are getting older. But still good enough to be 2nd in the Pacific: 4th in the West ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Boston: With the additions of Loui Eriksson and Jerome Iginla (Born in St.Albert Alberta like me!) Makes them a better team. Even with the loss of Seguin. 1st in the East ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Buffalo: Had a decent draft this draft day. But need better people at all positions. 13th in the East ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Calgary: Drafted Monahan. But also could use better people at all positions. 14th in the West ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Carolina: Again. Also could use better people in all positions. Need to rebuild more. 14th in the East -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chicago: Didn’t break up their team as they did in 2009. Still a great team. And can still take a run at the Cup. 1st in the West Colorado: Need more defense. But the top 6 is great. And with the addition of Mackinnon. The team is a lot strong. Still not going to do that well though. 13th in the West Columbus: Strong Defensive team. And if Bobrovsky can do as he did last year. They will be: 7th in the East Dallas: With the addition of Horcoff and Seguin. The team is a lot stronger at centre and can win games. 4th in the West Detroit: They somehow keep making the playoffs. But I think next year they will not be able too. Just because of the division they are in and how much older they are. 9th in the East --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edmonton: Call this being biased. But Edmonton’s top 6 is a lot better and Dubynk can possibly mature into a starter goalie. Need to fill holes in the bottom 6 though. Still will squeak into the playoffs at 8th though will the wild card 8th in the West --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Florida: Barkov can help a bit. But when it comes down to it they also need help at every position. 15th in the East ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Los Angeles: Still as good as they we’re last year and their Stanley Cup year. Nothing changed 2nd in the West ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Minnesota: Even with the additions of Suter and Praise last year they only just squeaked into the playoffs. Nothing has changed and teams around them are better. 9th in the West ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Montreal: Don’t let a short season fool you. Energy is less spent and teams are better. Montreal was one of those teams. They need to get bigger (like Edmonton) and their defense isn’t the greatest. And Price is so inconsistent you don’t know if he is going to be good or bad this season. 8th in the East ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nashville: Defense will be hard to play against. But their offense is nowhere near good. Need a huge upgrade on offense to be anywhere near the playoffs. 12th in the West -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Jersey: Kovalchuk leaving can be good or bad. – Depending how you look at it. It frees up cap space that will go on for the next 10+ years but you also lose a very skilled guy who can score. 12th in the East --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New York Islanders: Great young team emerging here also lots of cap room and a great captain. Look for them to do well next year and maybe make it to the second round. 5th in the East ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New York Rangers: Lost a lot of good players due to the Free Agency this year. Also not as good as they used to be. Won’t make the playoffs. 10th in the East -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ottawa: I think this is the first time ever I will not be ripped while mentioning “Ottawa” as a hockey team. But have a good young core and if Anderson does as good as he did last year (in 22 games and I don’t think he won’t, but you never know.) They can make it pretty far. (Imagine Ottawa vs Edmonton in the finals. I’d be insult Ottawa the whole series!) 6th in the East ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Philadelphia: Honestly this team is stacked now. But they have to get rid of a defenseman because their cap is too high. 4th in the East -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Phoenix: This team made no moves in the off-season except signing Riberio. It really doesn’t make them a better team. Don’t except the division thing to save them this year. 10th in the West --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pittsburgh: Got destroyed by Boston in the Playoffs last year. Think they can have better luck. Pretty much the same team but they may have cap issues. 2nd in the East --------------------------------------------------------------------------- San Jose: They have cap issues. But has a lot of depth and they can probably snag the wild card affront of Edmonton. :( 7th in the West ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- St.Louis: Still have that Second-in-the-west team that they had to years ago with or without Perron. They also have Boumester and Paarjavi. 3rd in the West ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tampa bay: They don’t really have that much of a team other than Drouin-Stamkos-St.louis. Need a goalie. Need better defense. This team maybe in the depths for a lonnnngg time (Like Edmonton :) ) 16th in the East ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Toronto: May get ripped by Sens fans because they don’t like Toronto. But remember my Montreal statement. Making it by luck? Toronto didn’t do that. They worked their butts off the whole year and deserved to make it to the playoffs. 3rd in the East Vancouver: Do not have a lot of cap space to work with, but still have most of the team intact from the 2010-2011 run. Don’t think they can do it again though. 6th in the West Washington: Haven’t been very biased but Tarvares deserved Hart way more than Ovechkin did. PWHA is actually so biased. Like Gallagher AND Saad over Yakupov. Not saying he should have won it. But he should have been a finalist for it. Friggin Rigged. Anyway I do not think the Capitals will do much this season. They are not a good team. The division thing saves them every year. 11th in the East Winnipeg: Need to sign their RFA’s. Don’t think they are a very good team anyway. Any reason why they would’ve made the playoffs last year was also the division thing. The League went to a realigned format for geographic purposes and has decided to stick with geographic names for the four new divisions. Three of the four names are carryovers from the old six-division alignment, but the League added a new name to the mix. The four division names are Atlantic, Metropolitan, Central and Pacific. The Atlantic and Metropolitan divisions make up the Eastern Conference and each division has eight teams. The Central and Pacific divisions make up the Western Conference and have seven teams in each division. 2013-2014 NHL TEAM SCHEDULES The Atlantic Division teams are: Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings,Florida Panthers, Montreal Canadiens,Ottawa Senators, Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs. The Red Wings have moved from the Western Conference to the Eastern. The Metropolitan Division includes the three New York-area teams -- New York Rangers, New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils -- along with the Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets, who are joining the Red Wings in the move east. The new Central Division in the Western Conference includes the Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues, Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets, who are moving from the Eastern Conference to the Western. The new Pacific Division includes the Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, Phoenix Coyotes, San Jose Sharks, Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers. The 2013-14 schedule ensures that all 30 teams play in all 30 arenas at least once during the season. The Stanley Cup Playoffs will still consist of 16 teams, eight from each conference, but it will be division-based and a wild-card system has been added. The top three teams in each division will make up the first 12 teams in the playoffs. The remaining four spots will be filled by the next two highest-placed finishers in each conference -- regardless of division -- based on regular-season points. It will be possible for one division to send five teams to the postseason while the other sends three. The seeding of the wild-card teams within each divisional playoff will be determined by regular-season points. The division winner with the most points in the conference will be matched against the wild-card team with the fewest points; the division winner with the second-most points in the conference will play the wild-card team with the second-fewest points. The teams finishing second and third in each division will play in the first round of the playoffs. The winners of each series will play for berths in the conference championship series. The winners of the conference championships advance to the Stanley Cup Final.
