To celebrate Poetry Ireland’s, All Ireland Poetry Day, Thursday 3rd of October 2013 Mayo Arts Office are hosting two poetry workshops in Coláiste Pobail Acla with Poet Geraldine Mitchell. The poetry workshops stem from last year’s All Ireland Poetry Day celebrations. Last year Mayo Arts Office, Mayo Artsquad and Mayo Library Service put out a county-wide call for inspiring poetry submissions for a Poetry Tree which resulted in a tremendous response with over 160 submissions received. A large number of the submissions for the Poetry Tree came from pupils of Coláiste Pobail Acla in Mayo. In 2012 and 2013 The Poetry Tree did a tour of some of the bigger Mayo Libraries. After the tour, Artist Louisa Sloan dismantled the tree and collated all of the poems into a unique book, which captures and reflects the poetic spirit of the people of Mayo. Poetry Ireland are live streaming for All Ireland Poetry day and parts of Mayo Arts Office celebrations will be recorded and sent to Poetry Ireland for live streaming.
