Toby had a very busy day today and it isnt quite over yet. It started this morning with Mom having to put his NG tube back in, that is never fun, but at least it is quick. After his morning feed he had to be cut off for a tummy test. So Mom and Aunt Jenny took him for a long walk and let him check out the rest of the hospital (whenever he has been admitted before he wasnt allowed off his monitors, this time is different), and just to waste some time. At 3:00pm, Toby went to an x-ray where, for lack of a better description, he was strapped down to a rotisserie and had continuous x-rays done while some dye was put into his NG tube. The doctors needed to see how the dye flowed through his stomach. The whole thing took about 3 minutes, but Toby was not pleased. The reason he was on a rotisserie type board was so they could turn him from side to side if needed to move the dye. It was quite funny to watch, although Toby was so not happy about it. (Just his legs and his chest were strapped down, and his head was supported, but he could move his arms and what not) So far, nothing has been said about that test, which should mean that everything was fine. So back to his room we went and Toby was ready to eat and play. Shortly after his feed started, Grandma came to visit and he took a 2 hour nap on Grandmas shoulder. After nap time was more play time (this kid is spoiled) and then the fun began. The doctors wanted to try an ND tube, which is the same as an NG tube, it just goes further into the stomach. That will help determine where the stomach is not tolerating the food and what area they need to look at. To place an ND tube, the NG tube is pushed about 8 cm further into the stomach and he has to lay on his right side for about an hour for gravity to move it down to the right place. So before his NG tube was messed with, Toby needed his regular meds, some food, and then his Synagis shots. The Synagis shots he has been getting monthly through the flu season to prevent RSV. They apparently sting a little more then a regular shot, but he recovers from them quickly. Toby got his shots (one in each leg), then he got a 60 ml gravity feed, his regular meds, and then the tube was placed. He then fell asleep and had to lay on his right side for an hour. He just now got back to his bed after the x-ray that was done to see if the tube is placed correctly. Toby is asleep again and we are waiting for the results of the x-ray to see if can start eating again or if the tube needs to be re positioned. Really hoping for sleepy Tobys sake that it is all done and he can finally go to sleep for the night.
