Two very close friends were trailing together a common pilgrimage path towards their destination, when they happen to fall in a verbal duel and one of them slapped the other in a moment of lost fervour. The friend who was deeply hurt by a slap in this incidence, wrote it on a sand before carrying on further: “My dearest friend has hurt me today”. Later, on reaching the pilgrimage, they went for a holy bath in a river. The friend who was slapped and hurt earlier lost his control and was swept away for to be drowned in a dreadful current, but his friend this time jumped in without a thought and saved him from drowning. On getting across the shore and before carrying on further, he paused and took a deep sigh and wrote it on the rock: “My dearest friend saved my life today”. The other friend was confused and he could not resist himself from asking him, ”Why last time you chose to write on a sand and this time on a rock?.” His friend replied, ”When someone hurts you - write it off in a way as if you are writing it on a sand so that it could wither away with the winds of time and forgiveness but when someone does good, engrave it on a stone so that it stays forever.”
