**WARNING** NSFCH (Not Suitable For Cake Haters) ;) ;) After seeing some of the cool rainbow cakes members have been posting on here in the last few days I was inspired to have a bit of a muck around with something different. So here is my checkered vanilla cake. The recipe is from scratch as follows: 125g butter (melted) 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla essence 1 1/2 cups high grade flour 1 1/3 tsp baking powder 2/3 cup milk Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, mix well. Add flour and b.powder, mix until just combined. Add milk and mix well. I used Queen Anne liquid food colouring and divided the batter into 3 bowls and coloured each one. The red has 1.5 tsp coca added for a surprise chocolately taste - in this one I added a touch more milk as the cocoa made the batter too thick. I lined my SC with baking paper then started in the centre and worked my way out to either side horizontally, then did the rows above and below also starting from the centre. I did teaspoonfuls and blobbed each bit then went back over each blob with the leftovers dropping more on top of each check (if that makes sense) until I had used up all the batter, then gave the SC insert a gentle shake to flatten out the batter as much as possible. I have no idea how it will turn out! Heres hoping!
