WHICH HE LAVISHED ON US, IN ALL WISDOM AND INSIGHT, -EPHESIANS 1:8 (NASB) The focus of this glorious passage of Scripture is the beloved Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is the object of God’s love, and the great grace that has been poured out on all who trust in His name. He is the One with Whom the Father is fully, finally and eternally satisfied, and thirty-five times we are told in the book of Ephesians that we who believe in His name are IN CHRIST. We are positioned in Him and as such are eternally secure and eternally loved. Christ redeemed us from the penalty of sin by His death, and His blood is the incredible price that was paid for our redemption. But redemption is one of many superlative benefits of which we are assured - by grace through faith. For God has lavished on us the unfathomable riches of his grace and the inestimable riches of His glory – the eternal riches of His salvation – and the unconditional riches of His love. The Father has not given sparingly or reluctantly but He has given lavishly. Because of Christ’s costly sacrifice of Himself in order to redeemed the world.. the Father has made the Lord Jesus Christ the fixed and final object of his love.. and He is is fully and finally satisfied with Him – and we are eternally complete in Him and eternally accepted in the Beloved. It is in the power of the Holy Spirit and in consequence of our position in Christ that God has lavished on us all wisdom and insight. We are not only saved by Christ but He is our Salvation. We are not only redeemed by Christ but He is our Redemption. We not only are given wisdom and insight, but Christ is our wisdom and insight - in the power of the Spirit. Knowing that Christ has been lavished in such abundance, let us ensure that we live our lives in a manner that is worthy of the great Gift that we have received.
