Was asked to say some words today for Mancels services and as we knew the time was nearing and family was in I took the day to clear my head and do some much needed yard work (Saturday). I turned on the music outside and started raking and picking up pine cones, limbs and burning them. I decided that I would put on the song that I had heard back when I first found out about Mancels diagnosis - I put it on repeat and turned it up, grabbed a cold one and jumped on the mower and started riding. As I was mowing I was thinking about him and how could I if given the chance speak and what would I say.... With help from the song and the cold ones the ideas and words started flowing together and it was going to be awesome...... I got this! Then came the call from Melinda telling Debbie Hopkins Messer to hurry over to the hospital. Deb and the kids were frantically yelling and telling me to come quickly - We have to go. I had two fires burning that I had to deal with so I told them to go ahead and I will get things under control and be right behind. I did that changed clothes and headed down I20 about 20-25 minutes later. I got a text from my wife saying Hey. I replied Hey. I saw the ..... of the text messages being written and then it stopped then started again and stopped. I knew this would be the text that most dreaded. minutes later I received Hes Gone. I asked if she was able to make it there and she said no she was just pulling in. She text me back 15 minutes later and said I wished you were here with us - we had private time with him, Melinda and the girls and my response was So did I honey - So did I. What she didnt know was during that 15 minute time frame I was looking at the beautiful Red Sky and had this song turned up and replayed it several times. Things happen for a reason and there was a reason why I had 2 fires burning and couldnt go with the girls - I had some private time with my buddy as he passed into that beautiful Red Sky..... I think I found my talking points for today. Gods Speed my friend! you will be missed but never forgotten - Until we meet again..... #TeamMancel #MancelStrong
