We have had an email from the 92-year-old former Chair of the GLASGOW SECULAR SOCIETY, Jack Gordon. He writes: - Hello Charlie, My son, Michael has told me about your getting acquainted and that I was the chairman of the Glasgow Secular Society back in the 1950s, although I had been a member since the late 30s. Seems a long time ago! For me it will be a special occasion to meet you all at the meeting you mentioned in your email to Michael, in December. As an OAP, I welcome the waiving of an entry fee! In December..Michael will drive me to this meeting, he really wants to come and meet you as much as I do..For me, it will be a memorable occasion, something I never imagined could occur in my lifetime. I look forward to meeting you and your colleagues and friends. In the meantime, I will try to type up a potted history that might add to the social rationales and political zeitgeist of the times, when I was personally active. I recall giving a lecture at the Mound in Edinburgh, when Frank Smithies was the secretary of the Edinburgh branch. It was a Sunday! My mother would not have approved, had she known. As I recall, Frank thought of me as a protege. I might be able to provide more remembrances in due course. Frank was very helpful and supportive towards the next generation. I was privileged to have known him. I look forward to meeting the current generation of secularists. Best wishes, J Gordon.
