Wednesday morning, a fishing guide participating in our Tarpon Genetic Recapture Study reeled in this rarely seen piebald tarpon caught near Anna Maria Island in Manatee County. The guide snapped a few photos and gave us permission to share them, and also collected a DNA sample from the fish. Tarpon DNA samples from fish larger than 30 inches are especially needed from anglers in Northeast and Northwest Florida.
