Wellfield Lodge’s innovative sponsorship programme has been tailored to support as many industry participants as possible. The Palmerston North stud’s approach has been warmly received by owners and trainers and they have also under-pinned a new Triple Crown series in the Central Districts for three-year-old fillies. Wellfield’s hospitality was in full swing at the Awapuni Racecourse on Saturday when the Wellfield Room opened its doors for the first time, to an excellent response. “The room has been given a major facelift and caters for owners and trainers that have runners on the day,” Bill Gleeson said. “The feedback was all very positive and it will be in action on every raceday. It opens onto the birdcage with a viewing area and there will be outdoor furniture for summer meetings. As became very apparent on Saturday, it will be a wonderful ‘go to’ facility for all owners and trainers with runners on the day where they can relax and enjoy a complimentary first drink and excellent food provided. “It’s our way of supporting the industry in association with the Race Group of clubs from our local base and we look forward to hosting you in the future,” Gleeson said. Wellfield is now also the major supporter of a new Triple Crown series for three-year-old fillies, which will open on the Gr.3 Eulogy Stakes at Awapuni with the focus to then switch to Trentham for the Gr.3 Desert Gold Stakes and the Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks. “There will be a $100,000 bonus on offer to any filly that can win all three races,” Gleeson said. “With New Zealand Bloodstock, we’ve taken the opportunity to give added value to the Filly of the Year series.” Free services to Alamosa and Road To Rock will also be on offer to the respective connections of the top two points-scoring fillies at the end of the three race series.
