West Memphis is still small town enough to honor a funeral - TopicsExpress

West Memphis is still small town enough to honor a funeral processional. I can remember when my granddaddy died the WM fireman all came in their uniforms and escorted the hearse with one of the big fire trucks to the edge of town. They didnt go all the way to Marion to the cemetery because that is against the city rules but they sure gave him a big send off from the Baptist Church to the edge of town. When Bud Holland was Chief of Police he would be in the intersection with the lights flashing on his police car and standing at attention until the last car had cleared the area for all of the funeral cars. A few years ago the police department did the same thing for my uncles funeral. I dont know if it is a small town tradition/ a southern tradition or just a tradition for the city of West Memphis.
