What makes this book particularly special is Lynn’s inclusion of a family letter. This letter was sent to Lynn’s great grandmother − Annie − from an Indian Agent. This letter officially informed Annie that after she married Joseph, who was only Indian through his mother Angeline, that the federal government of Canada now considered her to be a “white woman.” In coupling her great grandmother’s letter with her own story of living in exile Lynn concretely connects the past with the present. − Heather Majaury
