Whats my beef with The Christmas Shoes song? Eschatological inaccuracy. As I observed on a friends post: Theres this whole timing thing the kid doesnt get. Even if his mom can somehow take the shoes with her to eternity, either she was translated to incorruptibility at the moment she passed away - in which case hes too late to get her the shoes - or she will be translated when Jesus returns - in which case the shoes will be out of style when she meets him. Plus, the whole thing reeks of mawkish emotional manipulation to entertain at the expense of people who have suffered genuine tragedy and dont really need to be reminded of it at the holiday season on the radio or on public music delivery systems. Let alone a made-for-TV-movie. Its like The Little Match Girl on steroids. Really, who wrote that one as a childrens story? It may have been Andersen, but its positively Grimm.
