While I am still a teacher who assigns homework, I try to make it meaningful and manageable. But this article explains why it is so difficult to make homework effective for the students. And therein lies the big honking problem of helping with homework. First, you are conveying to your kids that they can’t make it without Mom and Dad’s help....But more important, you are sending the unmistakable and not so subtle message that it’s better to be right than smart.
