Wisconsin’s fine for not buckling your seat belt, or failing to - TopicsExpress

Wisconsin’s fine for not buckling your seat belt, or failing to buckle up a child, would increase from $10 to $25, under the proposed 2015-17 state Department of Transportation budget. DOT officials said Wisconsin’s seat belt compliance rate was 84.7% in 2014 -- lower than in surrounding states with higher fines for failing to buckle up. The fine for a seat belt violation is $25 in Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota, for example, and $50 in Iowa. Raising Wisconsin’s fine would save lives, DOT officials added. WisconsinEye is scheduled to interview DOT Secretary Mark Gottlieb on the agency’s budget request on Tuesday afternoon.
