YOU MUST READ THIS-TO CREATE JOBS FOR OUR CHILDREN The recent national tragedy arising from the Immigration recruitment shld be a wake up call to us all.Beyond the trading of blames we should take urgent and practical steps to mitigate the menace. But before I make my suggestions, read this: On the same day that it was revealed that the U.S. creates 1.1 million jobs yearly from 56,000 established public and private waste-to-wealth recycling industries, making $236 billion in gross annual sales,it was also made public that Nigerian politicians and the noveau rich spend N10 billion yearly to buy bullet-proof vehicles! Think about this. NOW MY SUGGESTIONS: 1.INTRODUCE BUSINESS EDUCATION RIGHT FROM THE PRIMARY SCHOOL LEVEL. 2.MERGE SINGLE HONOURS COURSES WITH RELATED PROFESSIONAL ONES. For instance, instead of studying only English Language, make it part of journalism.Make zoology part of animal husbandry, botany part of agronomy and so on. 3.FINAL- YEAR PROJECTS SHOULD BE S.M.E-driven and relevant to the Nigerian economy instead of abstract topics that add no direct value to the life of the would-be graduate. 4.SPECIAL BANK LOANS AT SINGLE DIGIT INTEREST RATE FOR GRADUATE ENTREPRENEURS. 5.STUDENTS SHOULD START THEIR BUSINESSES WHILE AT SCHOOL,ALONG THEIR TALENTS. For instance,in my second year at U.I. in 1974 I was busy making creative designs for an Adire cloth maker and in the process made money by side. Also, Dele Momodu sold pastries as an undergraduate at O.AU.Ile-Ife.The Zinox Computers CEO started early. 6.CREATE MINISTRY OF JOB-CREATION NOW! Perhaps,Mr.President could take a look at the Ministry of Labour and Productivity and that of Trade and Investment for merger and out of it create that of Job-Creation. 7.THERE MUST BE CREDIBLE DATA TO WORK WITH. How many unemployed graduates do we have in Nigeria;stae-by-state,LGA by LGA? We shld have their names, degrees, places of residence, year of graduation and match this with the available vacancies. Such a Ministry will check d activities of fraudsters who now ask unsuspecting job-seekers to pay for unavailable vacancies. 8.AREAS OF UNTAPPED JOB OPPORTUNITIES a.Waste- to -wealth as revealed above. Bio-gas to generate electric power b.Renewable Energy.Graduates with science and ICT background shld go to Bells Univ,Ota and take a course on R.E.at the BELLSTECH-WECASS Centre for Africa and within six months they would be versed in solar and wind energy. c.Agriculture. The Dr. Adesina-led Ministry has opened vast opportunities in crop production and animal husbandry.Interested graduates should swallow their pride and take a vocation in agriculture.Millions can be made from export of cassava chips to China. d.Entertainment. Returnees such as Don Jazzy,D-Banj,Wierd MC,Banky-W who were not making it outside our shores are living large now.NOLLYWOOD HAS MADE MILLIONAIRES OUT OF MANY OTHERWISE SIMPLE-HEARTED Nigerians.Recently,Genevieve Nnaji made N200 million in two months from acting alone!Think about it. Identify your talents, hone them and use such to make your millions. It is not compulsory that you fixate on only what you studied at the univ.Kehinde Kamson resigned as an accountant with an oil company to start SWEET SENSATION eatery.Within ten years she had ten outrlets, with one in New York. e.ICT. Vast opportunities are waiting to be tapped here. Some undergraduates at Bells Univ. of Technology,Ota already own their on-line businesses and raking in good money. f.Mineral resources. Mining of several mineral deposits is a business venture to be considered hoping that amendment would be made to the laws so that states could go fully into it. g.Tourism is another profession for the future as Nigeria strives to join the wave of globalisation. h.Security forces. With the insecurity challenge many jobs will be created in the nations security arm as policemen and soldiers. MY APPEAL TO GOVT. 1.NIGERIANS SHOULD BE GIVEN PRIORITY IN TERMS OF JOB PLACEMENT ABOVE FOREIGNERS.Many foreign companies are insulting us with the employment of ill-qualified forerigners. 2.BAN THE IMPORTATION OF ALL ITEMS WE CAN PRODUCE LOCALLY. 3.SOCIAL SECURITY FOR ALL UNEMPLOYED GRADUATES,not less than N15k Per month. Dear reader, your views are welcome. God bless Nigeria.
