Yesterday was a sad day for us. Suzanne teaches English and citizenship for the Manos Unidas Center. This past summer, a man from the Center started coming to our house twice a week to learn to speak English better. He was a very pleasant man, polite, trustworthy, always eager to learn and very helpful. He became our friend. Suddenly he quit coming. We later learned he was taken away in chains and put into a detention center for being undocumented. We started to visit him once a week. He applied for asylum. Almost 9 months later while sitting in prison all this time, his request was denied and he will soon be deported. Before he was imprisoned, he worked at a job only immigrants take, payed taxes, helped the local economy, contributed time, talents and money to church and his community. Thank you Suzanne and Rachel for doing the best for him. He will be missed.
