You know when everything just falls into place at the right time? Well today it did and it was totally amazing. A (very short) rehearsal and two shows; the first to other lads in CC plus some outside visitors (c.80) and the second which comprised friends and family of the lads involved plus several more outside guests (c.50). It’s really hard to describe. Exciting, emotional, fun, poignant, highly professional and many more words besides but somehow, no word or phrase quite captures the whole thing. The performances the lads gave were raw and exciting and both audiences totally got it. Memorable moments include: young men from other pods who came to see the gig, walking across to Nick, shaking his hand and saying, ‘we loved what you wrote, and we loved the violins’; the CSO players giving ‘lessons’ until the lads departed; the families of the performers who were overjoyed and emotional to see their sons/brothers/nephews/grandsons give it their all. It’s never easy to sum occasions like this up in words because so much of it is not to do with words. All we can say is it was totally brilliant and enormously satisfying. Thanks to everyone who made it so special; the lads and staff at CC; CSO musicians, Dan K, Baird, Hermine, John and Dan A; Michael R and the total legend that is Jonathan McC.
