ZZ Top played the colisieum, the sponser for the tour was Shlitz beer - A friend of mine at the time was working at G+G distributers . He got about 20 tickets for free, so we loaded up the cars, and made the drive from Wallingford - Early in the show I thought it sucked ,so I said to one on my friends,Stevie Ray Vaughn is playing at toads place tonight, lets head over there. - Even though neither him or I was driving, we walked over to toads. - When we got there the line wrapped around the block, up to Broadway - totally sold out - we werent getting in - The tour bus was parked right out in front , I looked in and saw what looked to be a bar with liquor bottles,.I tried to sneak in to the bus,but as I tried to quietly open the bus door, it opened for me by a big roadie, who greeted me with a punch in the face. I was knocked to the ground, flat on my back. Evidently the roadie felt bad for what he had done, he picked me up off the ground, apologized, and the put the sticky Toads Place backstage pass with SRV written on it - he stuck it on my chest, and said go ahead in and have a good time. Being that I had come with another friend , I went in showing pass, took pass off, waited a bit, then came outside again, but getting hand stamped first - I then gave pass to my friend and he got in ---- So now 2 of us are in watching SRV but we only have 1 backstage pass - as we are enjoying show, I notice this older guy staring at me - he was dressed like Cornel Sanders - White suit / white hair ect - As he was looking at me I said whats up ? he told me he was SRVs doctor - I said prove it by getting my friend backstage - As show ended he said comon lets go - sure enough he got my friend backstage (which at toads is downstairs)So me my friend and cornel Sanders are downstairs in the dressing room. We were the first ones in there, but shortly after a small frail sweaty SRV comes in followed by double trouble - SRV came up to us and I greeted him as a 23 y/o starstruck fan would. SRV gave us a few minutes of his time, and was a really genuine good guy . Soon after the room filled up , and SRVs attention was needed elsewhere. - As we stood there drinking beers, the doctor invited us to the after party. He told us it was around the corner at the Holiday Inn and to meet him there. We walked over there, and sure enough in the Lobby we met up with The doctor, SRV w/ girlfriend ,and double trouble - We all went up to their room , SRV told D.T. he had to shower, then he was taking limo w/ girlfriend into NYC - Doc w Shannon and Layton asked my friend and I if we want to play cards (yes I thought that was weird), and I wondered where all the groupies were- We began to play, Stevie comes out (shower completed) dressed and ready to head out - we all said our goodbyes to him (remember this is a time when everyone didnt have a cell phone camera) When we got back to the card game , it was Layton and Shannon sitting on one double bed, my friend.myself, and thedoctor on the other with a tray type table between the 2 beds to hold the cars. It was about 3:15 am in the middle of a hand .... when the doctors arm reached around my back, and rested on my shoulder. The doctor pulled me towards me and whispered in my ear come to my house in Scotland Ct. and Ill give you all the marijuana and coke you want --- I was shocked ! I pulled his arm off me , and said to my friend come on lets go , were done we went down the elevator to be let out side to a 3:40 am winter storm - and no ride back home to Wallingford. - We bagan to walk home - got up on the highway as sun was coming up we had made it all the way to around Almar Dinner - My friend went down to the dinner from the highway (91) to use the phone to call for a ride from his family. Remember it was a bad storm . no cars on highway, but I remained up there hitchhiking by myself when all of a sudden a car swerving and sliding pulls up to me - the door opens ... Its another gay guy ! - A 30 something black guy drinking a flute of champagne ! - He seemed upset about something , possibly he had been crying. He asks me you want to party ??? - And being I was 11 miles from home with no ride and it was freezing, and there was no other cars up on the highway .... I said ifyou can take me home to Wallingford so I can get some dry clothes, I will party with you - He agreed so I jumped in, and off we went ! - It was an awkward ride, and he didnt make any advances (I was ready to bail if he did) - I directed him to what he thought was my house, but it was actually the next street over from my house. I said ok theres my house, wait right here, Ill be right out. I went up to the house, went around the back, then through the woods and finally reached home. - Leaving this strange gay guy in his idiling car on the next street from mine - I finally got to bed around 9am - true / long story - but hey - not many people around here can claim the met, and partied with Stevie Ray Vaughn !!!
