and in all of this, by taking up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. (Eph 6:16 NET) The devil is always looking for a way to turn our lives upside down. He puts so much effort into getting us to panic and lose focus. As soon as he gets us to put our attention on the wrong thing, he finds a foothold from which to begin to spread his twisted philosophies. He works hard to get us to prioritise the relief of the flesh above the pursuit of the Lord. We tend to forget that the demonic world likes to study people and come up with a strategy that will take our focus off of God and put it elsewhere. Even when something good happens, they work hard to put our focus on what could be or what might go wrong. Having been given an entire garden to eat from and the privilege of naming every animal that existed, Adam should have felt extremely blessed. Waking up in a ready made set up which had everything a woman could wish for should have been an eternally humbling situation for Eve. Instead of recognising how blessed they were and continually appreciating their set up, they just existed. If God did not look for them, they did not look God. Instead of taking time to understand the word of God more, they chose to do other things. In the midst of Gods splendour they never thought to pursue what was pleasing to Him. Having studied Adam and Eve and realising that as much as God was showering them with love and blessings, the devil saw that they were not showering God with love and attention. The devil realised that a lack of appreciation for what one has opens the door for the desire and pursuit of what one shouldnt have. Armed with this realisation, the devil implemented his strategy of talking up the only thing that they were not allowed to partake. Adam and Eve fell for the devils strategy because their focus was not on Gods word, love or character. Their misplaced focus meant that even though they knew the word of God, it did them no good. The devil easily executed his plan in their lives and brought continuous suffering. Adam and Eve were unable to extinguish the darts of the devil. In contrast, because Jesus kept His focus on Gods word and prioritised the Kingdom of God, He thwarted every attack of the devil by standing on Gods word. Jesus used faith to deal with all the words and attacks of the devil. No matter what was going on, Jesus always turned to and spoke the word of God to His situation. May you hunger and thirst for the word of God, study it and always speak it. May your faith grow in leaps and bounds as you consume the word of God. May every challenge draw you closer to God and deepen your faith. May you no longer walk in agreement with the twisted interpretation of Gods character and love that the devil offers. M.
